About the Client:
East Falls Local (Philadelphia) is a free, privately-owned and operated publication, available in north-western Philadelphia. Coverage focuses on East Falls and its surrounding, northwest neighborhoods: Alleghany West, Germantown, Manayunk, Mount Airy, and Roxborough. In 2017, East Falls Local was accepted into CultureTrust, a project under CultureWorks of Greater Philadelphia’s “humanities” branch.

GOALS / OBJECTIVES
When the current editors of East Falls Local took over the former "Fallser" newspaper, their goals were simple:
Grow readership, further showcase the unique voice of East Falls and expand that voice to surrounding neighborhoods via hyper local stories.
This would require a strategy to redesign the look and feel of the sixteen page print edition. The task was to offer more eye catching and in turn increase sponsorship thru advertisement. The editors requested a more modern feel, that would still honor the classic look of the old "Fallser" newspaper while also reflecting the evolution of the neighborhood. The result is a updated spread design that features livelier fonts, blending both modern and traditional. The new look incorporates a more humanistic and playful tone of design and color by showcasing intentional color stories and graphics. The updates offer a new perspective on the dynamic between both old East Falls and new.
